On Monday, August 12th I hiked the Baldface Circle with my friend Jerry. This ten mile loop traverses South Baldface (3,547') and North Baldface (3,591'), two mountains in the Evans Notch region on the Maine/New Hampshire border. The steep eastern face of South Baldface is one noteworthy attraction of this hike; it features long sections of smooth granite slabs, which can be tricky in wet or icy conditions. The views of nearby Mount Washington and the Carter Range from the Baldface summits were beautiful and clear. Jerry and I enjoyed the hike for its own merits, but we were also preparing for an upcoming trip to Baxter State Park where we will attempt a challenging route on Katahdin with a couple of other friends. Stay tuned to America Out of the Box for further details!
